About

Protoblogger is an experiment in linkblogging.

Background — when I started scripting.com in 1997 it was a linkblog, but gradually over time it changed into a hybrid, with links and longer stories, and finally became a place for essays. I transitioned to using Twitter as the place I publish links.

If this experiment works, I’ll still push links to Twitter, but they will publish here too.

  3. Nice idea. Added the feed to my reader.

I started http://Wir-sprechen-Online.com for a similar reason a year ago: I wanted an independent microblog, with all the goodies WordPress offers, but stay on Twitter et.al. as well.

Wondering why you’re not using the P2 theme?

  5. Dave, what I do not understand is why you don’t mix more services to publish your links to a bigger audience.

    One example: Delicious.com > Twitter > FriendFeed > protoblogger.com

Every service and protoblogger makes sense. Just wondering.

BTW: The theme is great. Only the link arrows are kind of too little to understand what this is all about for a accidental new visitor.

  6. Thank you for the information. I actually started out researching Backfence.com, which led me to Bayosphere.com and then to a shoutout about Dave Winer. I thought who!

Reading further I discover he’s responsiable for many of the cool features used on the web today. A big that you.

I’ll continue reading your blog. Blog. The term is old but the blogging part is new for me. The info gathered is an important part of the web world as mentioned in Bayosphere. So, creating info it is. Thanks again. http://freedomlawnandlandscape.com/index.php/rss-feed/RSS-Feed/

  7. Curious. It is Sunday @ 6:25pm EST, why are there two Sunday link columns with almost identical information listed?

It is an interesting idea, and I like the presentation format. Thanks.

  8. Have you checked out posterous.com? I just started using it and was impressed that I don’t have to leave my existing services behind – they can post to all of those while you keep on posting the stuff you want to post through “email”.

They have a bookmarket as well where you can post links.

  9. I just replied to you on Twitter, Dave, asking what you meant by scripting.com becoming “legacy.” As a novice blogger (though a seasoned academic and writer), I’ve looked to scripting often, and always found something that helped me push against the limits of the medium. Have to agree with Sameer about posterous, which I started using recently as a space between the micro of Twitter and my macroblog on TypePad. I’ll definitely follow this new venture.
